About

I’m Heather Billings, and I’m a nerd. You know the kind: Quiet people-watchers at parties, passionate to the point of blows over best coding practices. (Only copyeditors could be more passionate about the usage of semicolons.) I’m a jack-of-all-trades who gets bored doing the same thing repeatedly — probably why I chose journalism as a profession. It’s certainly anything but predictable.

I currently work on the Chicago Tribune news apps team, doing a little bit of everything. Previously, I interned on the graphics desk at the Washington Post, got my master’s in journalism from Arizona State University (started this blog for Dan Gillmor’s media entrepreneurship class, as a matter of fact), and was multimedia editor and general ass-kicker for my college paper at Fresno State.

Oh, and yes, I am a journalist. Tell me otherwise and I’ll send the assassins after you.
